Hello Corpus

Monday, January 13, 2020

It was a short trip from Victoria to Corpus Christi so we were totally excited when we reached our destination around noon.  We were greeted with blue skies, beautiful beach waves, and a humid 67 degree temperature. So much more pleasant than the windy, snowy and icy 27 degree weather reported back home!

We checked into the office, knowing we were around four hours early, but thankfully a quick call to our condo owner allowed us early entry.  We’re at the gated community known as Villa Del Soul condos- condo #1209- first bldg., second floor, 9th condo.  As we travel to the second floor, we notice a crystal clear pool on the ground level (which we later learn is heated to a luxurious 90 degrees).  Little did we know that here is where the action is.  Everyone who is anyone goes here to meet and great, and plan and party.  It’s the “hub” of the community. Looks like we’ll be seeing a lot of this place!

So we carry our luggage to the second floor, open the door, and there it is - our little paradise!  And it’s all ours for the next month!  Small but very, very cute, it is absolutely perfect!  It’s turquoise and white beach theme decor is so refreshing- especially with the beach view from our patio door.  We absolutely love it!

After unpacking, we venture out to familiarize ourselves with the place.  Low and behold, the first resident we meet is named Phyllis Claymore.  Picture Betty White - that’s Phyllis!  A fiesty 88 year old from Eastern Iowa, Phyllis has been coming here for over 25 years.  What a sweetie!  She informs us that she volunteers at the Texas State Aqua Center (just a short distance away) and if we would like, we could be her guests for free on Friday.  Wonderful! I think Phyllis and I are going to be great friends!

After meeting Phyllis, we exit the community, and take a short drive to check out our new surroundings and possibly to find a bite eat. We stop at a place called “Yo’s” and venture in to find the owners are a very friendly couple from New Jersey. Their specialty is Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, but tonight it’s pizza for us.  We order it to go as a dense fog is creeping in and the visibility is getting pretty slimy.

Upon our rerun to the condo, we spend the rest of the evening chowing down on pizza and enjoying our new digs.  Life is good!  This place is going to work out just fine!
