Trip to the Aquarium - Take Two

I just can't say enough about the Texas State Aquarium!  It is absolutely amazing and it's my absolute favorite place to visit here so far!  So yesterday, Jer and I had to make yet another trip to check out all the things we missed the first time around.  What an experience!  Now, I can totally understand why our friend, Phyllis, has volunteered here for over 25 years.  She must be just like me.  She can't get enough of this place either!

So one of the highlights of yesterday's adventure was the dolphin show.  Unbelievable!  Those dolphins could jump, spin in mid-air, play catch, and even wave to the crowd!  They were quite the entertainers and it was so much fun! 

After the dolphins, I ventured into an exhibit where this large fish tank filled the room from top to bottom.  At the top, the tank curved over the top of you so you could walk right under it. It was absolutely breath-taking!  Have you ever had a shark swim right over the top of you?  Wow!  What an exhilarating feeling!  

But that wasn't all!  I even saw a couple of sloths. It appeared they were napping- at least I think they were.  I've never seen a sloth before, but I know they are slow movers.  These two seemed to be in a deep slumber, with their arms wrapped around each other.  So adorable! 

And then there were the flamingos!  Oh!  So very, very beautiful with their vibrant orange colored feathers.  Much to my amazement, Phyllis informed us that the flamingos are born with white feathers, but gradually turn into this beautiful bright orange color, due to the food they eat.  Amazing!

Oh!  Have you ever heard of garden eels?  They're such charming little guys, standing straight up in the sand, just like little tin soldiers.  I had never heard of them, but I have now!  So cute!

Well, as you can tell, I could go on and on about this place, but the best advice I can give you is just go there!  If you are ever in Corpus Christi it is a definite place to see!  I promise - you won't be disappointed!

What a fun day! On Saturday, our winter Texan friends, Jim, Marty, and Phyllis graciously offered to take us on a road trip and it sure was a great time! Good food, good people, good times! What more can you ask for, right? So after having a tasty lunch of red fish and flounder at an eclectic place called Red Willies, we road the ferry once again and ended up on a beautiful beach on the outskirts of Port Aransas.  At the far end of the beach, a granite jetty stretched out into the Gulf of Mexico.  It provided a rocky pathway for numerous fishermen and spectators who were either enjoying the anticipation of the catch, or soaking in the beautiful view of the puffy white clouds, the beautiful blue skies, and the sounds of the powerful crashing waves. Things That Remind me of Dad...

Well, Father's Day is once again upon us, and oh how the memories flow! Obviously, there's no amount of time that can erase those special memories of our awesome dads, and my dad is no exception!. No siree! While my dad was one you might certainly call "unique", the fact is, I think that's probably the reason I loved him even more! So cheers to our dads! No matter how "unique"! My hope is that this also spurs some wonderful memories of your own father, as I remember mine. Old Timer Tuesday - Texan Style

If you ever would happen to glance at my personal calendar, one of the first things you might notice is that the last Tuesday of every month is blocked out.  Well, there's a very special reason for this.  The last Tuesday of every month I have a very  important lunch date with all my retired SCSB friends.  We all meet at the Pizza Ranch at noon so we can chit, chat, and of course eat. We've been doing this for the past three years and it's always guaranteed to be a good time. So as I sit here today, this last Tuesday of January, in Corpus Christi, Texas, I'm thinking about my retired bank friends back in Iowa.  Did they remember the day?  (Usually, I send an e-mail to remind them.)  Did Denise and Mary join them?  This would be their first official "Old Timer Tuesday" as retirees.  Did they all celebrate with an extra piece of dessert pizza?  And was everyone able to attend or did the nasty Iowa weather keep anyone away?
