Driving the Beach - Port Aransas

What a fun day! On Saturday, our winter Texan friends, Jim, Marty, and Phyllis graciously offered to take us on a road trip and it sure was a great time! Good food, good people, good times! What more can you ask for, right?

So after having a tasty lunch of red fish and flounder at an eclectic place called Red Willies, we road the ferry once again and ended up on a beautiful beach on the outskirts of Port Aransas.  At the far end of the beach, a granite jetty stretched out into the Gulf of Mexico.  It provided a rocky pathway for numerous fishermen and spectators who were either enjoying the anticipation of the catch, or soaking in the beautiful view of the puffy white clouds, the beautiful blue skies, and the sounds of the powerful crashing waves. It was nothing short of amazing!

As the big waves crashed onto the beach, a multitude of seagulls flooded the sky.  My friend Phyllis had secretly brought along a bag of stale popcorn, which she humbly shared with me so we could feed the hungry birds. Usually I'm a bit nervous around birds, but the nervousness soon vanished as we tossed the kernels into the sky.  The seagulls went wild, hoovering within inches over our heads!  Between squeaks and squawks they fiercely fought for the popcorn. Some caught the kernels midair, and others fought for position on the ground to retrieve their share.  It was so neat!  I have never experienced any thing like this ever before!  It was so very thrilling!

As the men spoke with the fishermen, us women walked the beach and searched for seashells.  I felt free as a bird as we walked along, with the wind blowing through my hair and the waves crashing all around me!  It was so exhilarating!

Before we knew it,  was getting late into the afternoon, so our chauffeur, Jim, gathered us all into his vehicle and drove us up and down the beach so we could enjoy all the beach activity.  There were people of all ages doing a variety of things.  Some were parasailing.  Some were flying kites.  Others were enjoying campfires and one beach enthusiast had built a sand castle as tall as I.  The detail was amazing!  He said he had spent two entire days building it and was planning on one more day to put on the finishing touches.  So very, very cool.

So just like that, the sun started to set and it was time to go back to the resort.  Wow!  What a day! Thanks to our fun sun loving friends, Marty and Jim, and to my seagull loving friend Phyllis!  This was a day I will never forget!

Can you believe this?  Wow!

Pretty close to heaven!
